Al "Long" Lenard (Aldon Lewis Lenard) was an award winning and all-star running back and kicker in the Ontario Rugby Football Union.
Lenard joined the Hamilton Tigers in 1940, but it was the next season, with the Hamilton Wildcats〔(Hamilton Tiger-Cat Alumni Association: Hamilton Wild Cats (Flying Wild Cats) roster )〕 when he was a star, leading the league in scoring and winning the Imperial Oil Trophy as league MVP. He again led the league in scoring in 1942, being named an all-star.〔Lanky Al Lenard Tops Eastern Grid The Vancouver Sun, November 3, 1942〕 He joined the Royal Canadian Navy during the war, continuing to play football in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
After the war he played with both the Wildcats〔Lenard Joins Tigers The Montreal Gazette October 3, 1945〕 and Tigers〔(Hamilton Tiger-Cat Alumni Association: Hamilton Tiger roster )〕〔Sports Ramblings - Al Lenard must be watched Ottawa Citizen, October 5, 1945〕 in 1945, but was traded to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and eventually decided to go to university.〔Gael Force: A Century of Football at Queen's, by Mervin Daub (McGill-Queen's University Press, 1996) p.257〕 As a Golden Gael at Queen's University he was two time all-star.
